The Precipice by Tony Chirinos

APRIL 1 - MAY 7, 2023

Opening Reception Friday, March 31st, 6-8 PM
Sat. April 1st, Tony Chirinos in conversation with Stephen Hilger, 4:30-5:30 PM
Followed by a book signing of The Precipice with Tony Chirinos, 5:30-6 PM

Over the last forty years, the Miami-based photographer Tony Chirinos has explored death and the vulnerability of life, culminating in this exhibition of photographs from his first monograph The Precipice. The images from nearly two decades spent working as a biomedical photographer thread the needle between the delicacy and sometimes brutality of the world of surgical intervention. The exhibition is broken into three main bodies: vibrant typologies of exquisitely photographed tools, surgical photographs of living subjects, and the journey to the afterlife. The show draws back the curtain onto a world that most of us never see, where human fragility and resilience coexist in an uneasy equilibrium.
